cutty sark

This was the other mast. A less interesting mast but a more interesting photograph - perhaps.

Cutty Sark Christmas Tree

Taken at Greenwich before Christmas - can you see the Christmas tree with lights at the top of the mast?

ice-skating

Before Christmas we visited the temporary ice-skating rink outside the national history museum in London. These temporary ice-skating rinks are becoming increasingly popular across the UK.

more Baildon Christmas lights - the house on the hill

This house is on the hill as you drive up to higher Baildon. It's Christmas lights are quite a landmark at this time of year.

Baildon in the mist

You can almost see the church!

And that could be a Christmas tree in the foreground ...

Slightly more festive tomorrow.

Christmas tree

Well - okay - it's not a Christmas tree. It's a tree with Christmas lights. Part of my visit to London a few weeks ago.

Festive Greetings

Just a week to go.

So perhaps I'd better send you all my Christmas card now!

The compliments of the season to all of you.

Calendar

I have some calendars left that I had printed for 2006. If any regular visitors would like a copy I will be happy to send them one for cost of postage "while stocks last"!!!!

They are scenes of Baildon and Shipley Glen in West Yorkshire, UK. I have to say though that although I used a local printer I have not been fully satisfied with the quality of the printing of the photographs.

shiny factory

Near the school there used to be an abattoir. It was closed down some years ago and razed to the ground. Now this shiny factory has risen from the dust. Nearby there was a tripe works and rendering factory - that smelt awful. It had some wonderful gates with cast iron bulls heads on the top of the gate posts. There was also a sign for lorry drivers in French as well as English. The French have more of a taste for offal than the English. Sadly the gates and the factory had also gone.

BCED

These letters were on the side of a small stone shed just down the road from the school. Could they be for "Bradford City Education Department" or ...

Any other answers?

Feversham School

Feversham School, Leeds Road, Bradford, UK. This was the the first Higher Grade Board School in the country built by Lockwood and Mawson architects in 1874. I recenty discovered that my mother's cousin's mother was a Mawson and relative of this architect.

I was headteacher of Feversham First School and worked in that building for about ten years. We then moved to a purpose built new building in the grounds of Leeds Road Hospital and I moved on to other things a year or so later.

The building then became Feversham College - a Muslim girls school. I understand they have impressive examination results.

But they too have now moved on and when I visited the old building and got a look round a few weeks ago I found that it is now a hardware store. I bought two mouse traps.

a last autumn image from Shipley Glen

I think it is getting rather too late to be posting autumnal photos - so forgive me this last one of Shipley Glen a few weeks ago and then I'll move on.

autumn colours at Shipley Glen

At the weekend driving along the motorway I was surprised how much colour there still was in the leaves. Usually in England most of the autumn colour has gone by now. These colours are from a couple of weeks ago though.

redesigned website

I've just revamped my main website. I hope to change the galleries more often. I've used a different picture viewer this time which I hope is better but I would be grateful for comments. You can find the website here:

autumnal reflections

Regular visitors will be aware of my interest in photographs of reflections. So here is a recent one of some autumnal birch leaves reflected in a puddle at Shipley Glen, Yorkshire, UK.
